URGENT: Tell Congress to Freeze Interest Rates for One Year

Student Loan Interest Rate Debate: There's Still Time to Reverse the Rate Increase

On Monday, the interest rate for subsidized Stafford student loans doubled from 3.4% to 6.8%, but there's still time to keep rates affordable for students who need to borrow for college this fall.

Tell Congress to reverse this doubling of interest rates!

On July 10, the Senate is scheduled to vote on the Keep Student Loans Affordable Act (S. 1238), which would return the rate to 3.4% for loans disbursed on or after July 1. It was introduced last week by Senators Reed and Hagen and 37 other senators, and it fully pays for itself by closing a tax loophole.

Urge your Senators and Representatives today to support the Keep Student Loans Affordable Act.

Income-Based Repayment and Pay As You Earn are two ways to help keep monthly payments affordable based on your income and family size. Visit the Department of Education’s Repayment Estimator to find out what your payments might be.
