Happy holidays from IBRinfo.org, an initiative of the Institute for College Access & Success (TICAS)!
With the help of borrowers like you, TICAS led the successful fight to create IBR and is the nation's leading advocate for affordable student loan payments and strong borrower protections. Here are just a few examples of what your voices and financial support made possible over the past year:
- More than 2 million borrowers are now enrolled in income-driven repayment plans like IBR and Pay As You Earn!
- The White House announced new executive actions to help more federal loan borrowers find out about and benefit from income-driven repayment plansalong with other steps based on our recommendations.
- The U.S. Department of Education took an important step towards reining in rip-off career education programs when it finalized a new gainful employment rule that's stronger than the 2011 rule, despite its flaws. Many of you joined TICAS and more than 30,000 others in calling for a strong rule.
- When a proposed $2 billion cut would have created a funding gap for federal Pell Grants starting next year, we rallied advocates for students and education and the business community, and the cut was averted. Instead, the maximum Pell Grant will increase as scheduled by $100 to $5,830 in the next academic year, limiting low-income students' need to borrow.
But there is more work to be done. We realize that many IBRinfo subscribers are struggling to make ends meet, and you may not have the financial resources to give. But if you are making year-end gifts, donations as small as $10 make a big difference in our fight to reduce the burden of student debt: please consider a donation to TICAS today.
Thanks and best wishes for 2015 from all of us at TICAS!
