I thought you'd be interested in this nonprofit site's information about income-driven repayment plans for federal student loans, which might help make loan payments more affordable for you or someone you know. The site is http://IBRinfo.org, and it explains how the plans work and how to apply. These federal plans are always available for free - you never have to pay a fee to enroll. Basically, income-driven plans cap monthly loan payments at percentage of your income; payments can be as little as $0 when your income is very low. If the loans aren't fully paid off after 20 or 25 years of payments (depending on the plan), the remaining debt is forgiven. People who work in the public or nonprofit sector could get forgiveness after 10 years. You can find out more at http://IBRinfo.org, which is run by the Project on Student Debt at the nonprofit Institute for College Access & Success.
